We can tell ourselves that living a life of happiness and fulfillment is for later or for someone else.
I’ve heard people say things like:
“I’d really like to stop taking my depression and high-blood pressure medication“.
“I’ve worked the last sixteen weekends”.
“I’d love to see my daughter’s fifth grade play instead of being in an airport terminal”.
“I’m just waiting for retirement, I only have seven more years if I can just hang on”.
“Well yeah that life is for those people because they…..(we fill in the blank with our excuse or well thought out justification)”.
Yet the offer is available……Freedom…..let freedom ring.
The Way Out
Pam Slim, author of Escape from Cubicle Nation, found her path to freedom and fulfillment when she vacated corporate america to start a journey of entrepreneurship. She’ll tell you, it’s not for everyone. Admit-tingly she has a huge tolerance for risk.
She turned 30, got pneumonia and had her Jerry Maguire moment with headstands in the middle-of-the night and the whole bit.
She quit her job, without another job.
She enrolled in a online marketing class to learn how to start building her own brand.
In 2005, the idea of creating a blog was like using the first Blackberry to send an email from a phone (crazy I know).
She sets off to fulfill her writing assignment and eight years later she has a voice of influence in the world of entrepreneurship, starting a business and building a tribe.
In case you didn’t know this is available to us also.
You see the connection?
Her story is our story.
She started doing the work before she knew where it would go.
She found her voice.
She found her topic of interest.
She rose up to meet the opportunity, put in the time and did the work .
The results?
Her blog becomes a book deal.
Book deal becomes an invitation to become a professional speaker.
Stay at home mom becomes professional business coach to help unlock other’s from the matrix.
Damn. That is choice.
You see, the smallest amount of yourself offered today can yield a new trajectory that you could only see in your daydreams.
But you better start doing the work today.
